Madison Children’s Museum is a nationally recognized and award winning interactive museum dedicated to serving the needs of children and young families as they learning through play. We take play very seriously by engaging, challenging, and inspiring every visitor who comes through the Madison Children’s Museum doors. The dedicated staff drives our mission by creating custom-crafted, award winning exhibits; providing programming that brings all ages together; and focusing on sustainability. And, because we know how important play is to everyone, we’re committed to assistance programs that allow all children to enjoy our learning playground.

The museum’s mission, to connect children with their families, their communities, and the world beyond through discovery learning and creative play, is expressed through our interdisciplinary exhibits and programs in the arts, culture, history, science, health, and civic engagement. MCM has grown to become an educational leader, community partner, and source of inspiration for families with children ages 0–12, and serves a vibrant and diverse community, primarily from local Dane County, blending both urban and rural backgrounds. MCM undertakes its work with a decidedly local approach, working with local people, products and resources, and highlighting unique features of Madison, Dane County and Wisconsin in all of its work. This sustainability ethic is core to the museum’s principles, as our respecting and amplifying children’s unique visions, and inspiring them to be active participants in their community and world. The museum serves over 225,000 people of all ages each year through its on-site and outreach offerings.



The Madison Public Library’s mission is to provide free and equitable access to cultural and educational experiences. Madison Public Library celebrates ideas, promotes creativity, connects people and enriches lives while addressing important issues facing Madison citizens, including education, poverty, economic development and quality of life. Madison Public Library’s vision of being “your place to learn, share and create” is demonstrated through a focus on creative programming, welcoming spaces, diverse collections, extensive community partnerships and excellent staff.

Madison Public Library consists of a Central Library and eight neighborhood libraries. Madison Public Library has promoted education, literacy and community involvement for 140 years. Madison libraries are open six days per week (three libraries have seasonal Sunday hours) and welcome more than 2.2 million visits annually. Library visitors check out more than 4 million items per year. Madison Public Library is part of the South Central Library System, a network of 52 public libraries in a seven-county area that share an online catalog, daily delivery of materials and reciprocal borrowing privileges among libraries.
